The Porta de Sol area has beaches, hundreds of beaches: long, short, white, gold, calm beaches, surf beaches warm and tropical, cliff-lined beaches, beaches surrounded by mangrove trees, beaches shaded by coconut palms. The beaches are warm, tropical and lovely. Puerto Rico is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and its hundreds of miles of coastline harbor an almost endless selection. Beach aficionados could spend a year exploring Puerto Rico and its offshore islands.
Our Penthouse Duplex is located together with the RinconBeach Resort in a magnificent Porta de Sol private beach called Almirante. Almirante is a beautiful beach, shaded by coconut palms in some areas, where you can walk for miles, relax, tan or enjoy your favorite cocktail. Almirante offers a spectacular beach and tropical mountain scenery at a glance. Puerto Rico is a colorful and inviting land and culture with many local festivals, special events and activities. The "Porta del Sol" is a tourist area located in the west coast with miles of beautiful beaches displaying the most spectaculars sunset and is surrounded by lots of things to do, places to go, plenty to enjoy!
What follows is a small list of things to do; there is much more as you will see at your arrival.
Rincón/Divers and snorkelers should consider a trip to Desecheo Island, due east of Rincón. This reserve has some of the most spectacular diving in Puerto Rico. On the southwest corner of Desecheo you will find a small and protected cove with excellent snorkeling and diving. The dive boats often tie up in this cove. Around the island the visibility is excellent, normally exceeding 100 feet. Some of the over 20 dive sites include the dives on the Yellow Reef pinnacle and the reef formation just offshore. You will find coral arches as well as staghorn and brain coral formations. This area is teeming with fish, and once in a while, a turtle wanders through.Adventures Tourmarine 787-375-2625

Cuevas de Camuy (caves)
RioCamuyCavePark is the third-largest cave system in the world located 35 miles away. Sixteen entrances have been discovered and 11 kilometers (7 miles) of passages have been mapped to date. One special attraction is the Cueva Clara, which measures 695 feet (210m) in length. The park is equipped with picnic areas, walking trails, food facilities, an exhibition hall and a souvenir shop, an excellent day trip.
San Germán
Founded in 1510, San Germán is known as "Fundadora de Pueblos" (Founder of Towns). It is the second oldest town in Puerto Rico. San Germán has a low-key ambiance and a significant architectural heritage. The town features an unusual two-plaza layout with a church on the east plaza and another church (the Porta Coeli) on the west plaza. The PortaCoeliChurch, founded in 1606, is one of the oldest churches in the western hemisphere.

Rincón / the town of “Bellos Atardeceres” (beautiful sunsets), is so well known in surfing circles that it is mentioned in the Beach Boys’ tune Surfing Safari. One of the main attractions is the restored Rincón Lighthouse and Park. This park has an eco-friendly gift shop and a snack bar. More importantly, it is set right in the middle of some of the best surfing in the world. You can stand at the park and watch the surfers go at it. Often there are formal contests held on the beach just north of the park.
La Parguera
La parguera / this small village has some of Puerto Rico’s premier attractions: world-class diving, the nature reserve and a bioluminescent bay. Combining some of the clearest waters and best wall diving. The nearby bioluminescent bay (Bahía La Parguera), is best seen on a moonless night. Any number of boats can take you from the main dock to Bahía La Parguera to watch the dinoflagellates (by the millions) emitting flashes of light that give the water a ghostly glow whenever they are disturbed, or just hang out at one of the small islands that you can access by renting a small power boat. Boquerón
Fresh fish ,lobsters, oysters and many other at local seafood restaurants. Local cuisine is available everywhere from outdoor cafeterias to gourmet restaurants. They offer fresh fruit juices and frappes. Drinks made from passion fruit , coconut cream and pineapple are among the most popular. Boqueron is the house of "piña colada" and was invented here, miles of jogging, walking, bicycling.
The RioCamuyCavePark
The third-largest cave system in the world. Several Golf courses are in the area. South towards the town of Ponce is ”. Water Sports abound: from over 20 surfing spots in the area to Sailing, Kayaking, Whale Watching (check for season) and Diving. Dive Tours can be arranged to visit the uninhabited Island, “Desecheo”, a Federal Wildlife Reserve.
Arecibo Observatory
The world's largest radio telescope located at 35 miles away. The site is so impressive that movie stars and Hollywood producers have used the observatory in various films, most recently in Contact, the film adaptation of the Carl Sagan bestseller that starred Jodie Foster. It was also the setting of the finale of Pierce Brosnan's first James Bond flick Golden Eye.
Porta Coelli Catholic Church
This chapel is the oldest Christian religious structure in the Americas. It was built in 1606 as part of a convent. 20 miles away.
Mayagüez
Mayaguez is about 10 minutes away by car. It is the largest city on Puerto Rico’s western coast. There is a Zoo, a nice thoroughly modern mall, one of the largest on Puerto Rico. Here you will find everything you need. There is a bookstore, clothing boutiques, a bank branch and a supermarket, as well as an eight-screen cinema.
PonceMuseum of Art
Puerto Rico’s premier Art Museum located in the south coast of Puerto Rico, built by the Ferré family. A collection of classic, historical and contemporary art much of which features Puerto Rican talent. A must see for art lovers. Located on Ave. Las Américas #2325, Ponce, Puerto Rico.
Cabo Rojo Recreational Area
Located on the Southwest corner of Puerto Rico, this town’s first church was inaugurated in 1783 with the name of San José. The bay at Boquerón, part of the Municipality of Cabo Rojo, extends some 3 1/2 miles inland, sheltering over a mile of white sand bordered by clear water is wonderful for swimming and lounging. It is excellent beach for swimming.
The Cabo Rojo National Wildlife Refuge supportLineBreakNewLine
Cabo Rojo National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1974 when 587 acres of land were obtained from the Cental Intelligence Agency as an upland buffer for the Cabo Rojo Salt Flats and its potential value as habitat for migratory birds. The 1249 acre Cabo Rojo Salt Flats, previously under private ownership were purchased and added to the refuge in 1999 for a total of 1,836 acres. Many birds find their way to the refuge while migrating between North and South America. These birds use the refuge during the cooler months, while resident species are here year-round. It is highly valued habitat for doves and pigeons. The refuge is also a base for scientists to conduct research. The information they gather helps managers make decisions on how to protect and preserve native wildlife.
