Banking and Currency
Puerto Rico, freely associated commonwealth of the United States, is composed of one large island and several small islands. Puerto Rico became a US commonwealth on July 25, 1952. Puerto Rico uses the US dollar; it is often referred to as the "peso". Most major US banks have branches here. Banking hours are 8:30-2:30 (though some have extended hours). Credit Cards & travelers checks are widely accepted. Teller and ATM machines are easy to find.

Events
Puerto Rico has a long history of cultural events built around the Patron Saint festivals in each municipality. In addition, a number of world-class events as well as local celebrations are held through the year.
Immigration
There are no passports or visas required for US citizens. For citizens of other counties, call your local US Embassy to determine entry requirements. Passing through customs should be routine and quick. If you are taking prescription drugs, make sure you have a copy of the prescription with you; otherwise you could be held up.

Puerto Rico offers a wide variety of services for those wishing to get married in paradise.
Taxes and Tipping
The standard tipping is 15%. Retail purchases other than jewelry are tax free.

Puerto Rico has area code 787 and 939. The country enjoys a modern, reliable US-style telephone service. Numbers with area code 800, 888, 977, or 866 are toll free from Puerto Rico or the US.
Weather
Puerto Rico enjoys an average temperature of 82°F (28°C) from November to May. The average beach temperature is 80°F in summer and 76°F in winter. The mountains tend to be 20°F degree colder in the winter.
Transportation
Driving is on the right-hand side of the road. All the same rules as any part of the United States, except that the signs are in Spanish, the distance markers in kilometers and the gas sold in liters.

The Puerto Rico Tourism Company, the island's official tourist center, produces and distributes several publications. The most popular is Qué Pasa! Magazine, a bimonthly magazine that extols Puerto Rico's vast number of tourist attractions and natural wonders available throughout the island and for your convenience you will find one in the Penthouse Duplex. It includes useful and fully updated restaurant listings, detailed full-color maps for touring the Island, engrossing feature articles plus vital information on Puerto Rico's history, local cuisine and night life, arts and crafts, folklore, sports and much more.
